Air fryers have made it possible for us to cook fried items without using oil! With proper use, these fryers make it possible to combine taste with health. However, it is important to clean these fryers properly to keep them functional and also to keep your kitchen free of any foul smell. You must clean the fryers each time you prepare food using them. Air fryers require much lesser time to prepare food than the containers required for deep frying. So, why not utilize the time you save in cooking for cleaning the fryer?

Our Essential Tips to a Clean Air Fryer
First of all, add warm water and liquid soap in a container.
Put the basket inside this container and allow it to soak the water.
The basket must be kept in the solution for about 10 minutes.
Next, use a sponge or scrubber to scrub off the dirt from the basket. The brush or sponge you choose should be a delicate one and must not harm the basket in any way.
After you have rinsed the bottom of the basket thoroughly with the sponge or brush, wash off the soapy water with water coming from the tap.
Repeat the same process for the pan as well.
The outer portion of the air fryer also needs to be cleaned. It will not become greasy unlike that of a deep fryer and hence cleaning will not be too difficult. Still, regular cleaning is mandatory for it. Its outer surface must be cleaned using a moist cloth and the inner surface using hot water and sponge.
The cleaning element of a deep fryer must be cleaned using a bristle brush. Never ever use an iron brush or hard bristle brush made of steel for the purpose. Instead, use a soft or medium bristle brush for cleaning it.
While cleaning an air fryer, you must remember the following:
The basket of an air fryer is made using a non-stick coating. Hence, abrasive materials should be avoided while cleaning them.
A non-abrasive scrub pad is safe for use in this case.
A soft or medium bristle may also be used.
Baking soda can be used instead of dishwasher liquid.
Apart from cleaning the above mentioned parts after each use, you should also clean the fryer coil when required.
Cleaning the Coil of an Air Fryer
Understanding whether it is the time to clean the coil?
The coil should be cleaned about four times every year.
In addition to this, if you find smoke coming out of the vent of the air fryer, then also you should go for a clean-up.
For those who use air fryers more frequently than the regular users, i.e. cook a lot of food-stuffs using these fryers daily, more frequent cleanings are required. They should clean the coil at least once a month.
Steps for cleaning the coil
Allow the fryer to be cooled.
Unplug it and remove it away from the source of power.
Invert it in an upside down position.
Clean the coil using a moist tissue first.
Then use a soft bristle to clean it thoroughly.
Dry it using a towel.
Cleaning Tips for Filthy Air Fryers
If your air fryer has become excessively dirty, normal cleaning procedure will not help it. So, you need to use a solution of baking powder for it. The solution can be made by mixing 3g baking powder for every 100ml of water. It needs to be poured into a spray bottle for effective spreading.
Now, to clean your air fryer using this solution, remove the basket and pan of the fryer and keep it inverted in an upside down condition.
Shake the bottle well so that the solution mixes thoroughly.
Spray it around the dirty region in the heater.
Allow the solution to percolate through the dirt.
Bring the air fryer to its normal upright position.
Keep it in this position for about half an hour.
Repeat the previous steps again i.e. turn it upside down, spray the baking powder solution and allow it to penetrate through the dirt for about a minute or so.
Again bring the fryer in its upright position and put back the basket and pan inside it.
Pour some water into the pan to remove the dirt and to make it moist.
Switch on the fryer and keep it on for about 20 minutes.
Open the drawer and take out the basket and pan out of the fryer.
Allow the fryer to be cooled as much as possible.
Invert the air fryer.
Wipe off the remaining baking powder and dirt that sticks to the surface. You may use a piece of cloth or paper towel for the purpose.
Finally, clean up the area in the back part of the heater with utmost care.
Cleaning of an air fryer is easy if you follow the above steps. The cleaning should be done with utmost care and precautions. It should be done regularly to keep it suitable for the daily preparation of tasty treats!
